He said Kaiser's integrated, capitated, not-for-profit system is so much more effective than typical fee-for-service medicine that they could blow the competition away.<br /><br />They do not do that because they don't wish to or feel able to handle the massive influx of patients that would result. Instead, they put the money into research projects and other constructive uses. <br /> <br />Perhaps a biased opinion, but it confirmed for me the power of taking profit out of the system.
